Inspiration: The Killarney Fern is native to Ireland and is one of the rarest fern species in Europe. This delicate plant is characterised by its distinctive translucent deep green fronds. Its decline can be partly attributed to its popularity among botanical collectors, drawn by both its rarity and ethereal beauty.

As its name suggests, one location where it can be found is at Torc Waterfall in Killarney, Co. Kerry. It is very important to me to tell the story of each plant featured in my work by referencing the beautiful locations across Ireland where they grow, giving a sense of place to each piece I create.

While visiting Torc waterfall, I was struck by the luminous green hues of the surrounding woodlands reflected in the cascading water. I am very driven by colour in my work and I think of my designs like paintings or wearable pieces of art. In this piece, I have chosen a colour palette of soft greens and teal blue to evoke the natural beauty of this magical location.
