Benefield Spencer Glass combines traditional Italian glassblowing techniques with a contemporary design sense to produce a line of affordable handblown glass for the home and table from their studio on the north Antrim coast of Ireland.

About Benefield Spencer Glass

Scott Benefield and Andrea Spencer (Benefield Spencer Glass) began working together in 2004, after meeting on an artists residency in Scotland. They now operate their glassblowing studio from a farm property on the rugged north Antrim coast, where they produce an annual range of functional glass, as well as produce unique and commissioned pieces. As one of only a handful of studio glassblowing facilities in Ireland, their glass can be found in shops and galleries throughout the UK and Ireland, and on their own website that features an exclusive studio collection of signature designs.

Our work is inspired by mid-century Italian production from the island of Murano, which combined virtuoso technique with a contemporary design sensibility. The filigrana canes form a network of fine parallel lines that are embedded into the body of the glass during its creation, and reflect the fluid process of glassblowing as the material is stretched, inflated and shaped with hand tools.
